BE REALLY CAREFUL WHO YOU LISTEN TO IN LIFE
In this post, I want to talk about something extremely important. I want to explain why you need to be really careful who you listen to in life.

Be Really Careful Who You Listen To In Life
You are the average of the 5 people you hang out the most with!
You should be extremely careful who you listen to in life. Most people don’t realize but you are literally the average of the 5 people that you hang out the most with. It doesn’t necessarily to be hanging out with but who you listen to. For example, at some point in my life, when I was 17, 18, or 19 years old, I was not hanging out with successful people but I remember I was reading tons and tons of books on biographies of millionaires and billionaires. I was reading books of successful people, how I can be successful myself, how can I become more productive and disciplined, books on leadership, books on how to sell, how to convince people, and books on how to become a better version of myself. I was not necessarily hanging out with these people who wrote the books but I was getting influenced by these people.
So the saying “you are literally the average of the 5 people that you hang out the most with” doesn’t mean you’re physically hanging out with the people around you. It means that you are the average of the 5 people who are influencing you the most in your life. If you listen to an audio book every single day, the person talking in that audio book is influencing you big time.
I attended two seminars by Tony Robbins and one of the quotes he said was your life is a reflection of the expectations of your peer group. If you hang out with, or read books or listen to audio books of people that have super high standards, they are going to expect you to wake up early and work all day. They are going to expect you to have a business and push yourself to the limit. Most likely in your life, that’s how you’re going to be.
Mindset, beliefs and environment are important
I decided to create this video because I’ve coached a lot of people in my life. I’ve been in the self-help kind-of industry for many many years. I’ve hung out with people I wanted to start a business but they ended up not doing it. I’ve hung out with people I wanted to go to the gym but didn’t do it for some reason. Some of them did; some of them started a business. But most of them actually failed. One of the questions I’ve asked myself a lot is “what is the difference between the people who ended up successful and those people who ended up not successful”. What I noticed is that they don’t have the same mindset, they don’t think the same way and they don’t have the same belief.
A lot of people think genetics is what determines how you’re going turn out in life. And I agree with that. genetics is super important. For example, I have blue eyes and I can’t tell myself and my mind that I have green eyes as many times as I want. It’s not going to turn my eyes into blue. So genetics is extremely important but the environment is also extremely important. When you take out the 1% of the population, like most of the time, their kids end up rich also. Obviously, if the parents have super high IQ, chances are high that their kids have high IQ also. So the genetics is super important but also the belief system of the parents is extremely important.
When you grow up in a family where your father or mother is working 70 hours per week and they’re multi-millionaire, and all of your childhood you were driving Ferraris and riding in private jets, it becomes part of your new reality; your new standard. For you, it’s not something that might happen in the future. That’s your reality right now. It’s something 100% possible for you because you got immersed in that lifestyle at an early age. Genetics is important as well as the belief system. The way of thinking of their parents has a huge impact on their life also.
Another thing that I’ve noticed is that those people who ended up unsuccessful have a really bad mindset. They were not totally certain that making money on the internet was going to work. Let me tell you a story. A few years ago, I moved to an apartment on Montreal and we named the apartment The Online Marketing House. We named it as such because it has a bunch of people living together and the goal of that house was for us to all make money on the internet. I was already making a little bit of money when I moved there but not much. I was making Kindle publishing that time and I just started not long time ago. My goal is to make more money but the others were not making money at that point. I lived there for about 2 years. When I left that house, I was the only person who is making money. Also, I’m the only person that made money. All of the other people made zero dollars in 2 years.
What I have noticed is that they were not really working hard and they didn’t have the right habits. They thought that our marketing was a scam. Basically, their mindset is really bad. On top of that, they don’t have the habits of a successful person. When I was living with those people, it felt like they were dragging me down. If I lived at the time with people who are way more successful than I was, I would have made more money; 100% sure. They were not inspiring me and they were not getting me to a higher level. That’s one of the biggest lessons I have learned in my life. Who you hang out with is super important. Who you listen to in your life is also extremely important.
Let me give you another example. Earlier today, I was on Facebook. Sometimes I go into Facebook groups about e-commerce and I read what people are asking. Sometimes it gives me an idea of what I should make a video about. I was reading a post of one guy. He said that he spent about $30,000 in Facebook ads, he made about $31,000 in sales and he wasn’t including the cost of the products into that amount. Basically, he lost a lot of money. He said he’s about to give up on e-commerce. He spent $30,000 plus all the cost of the product so it’s probably about $40,000- $45,000. I was reading the comments. Most people were giving him advice like don’t give up, just continue spending money, and just continue to test products and everything is going to be alright. Everybody was trying to cheer him up.
The advise that you receive is not always a good advice
As I was reading, I asked myself if that is really the advice that this guy needs. I think those are not really the advice this person should receive. The person spent $30,000. It’s crazy! What I recommend is if, after $500 they don’t have positive results with their store, it means that they’re obviously doing something wrong. They should change their approach. First, stop what they are doing or learn more or do something else. But people were giving him advice and I was like, well that’s really a bad advice. That’s the point of this video – to tell you that sometimes, the advice that you receive is not a good advice. So I replied to the guy’s post and told him that he should clearly follow another system, he should learn as much as possible about e-commerce, follow a proven system to teach him what to do step-by-step, and stop wasting money on what he is spending right now because obviously, it’s not working. A lot of people said I was so mean to the guy so I just quit the conversation because it’s just too much for me.
The bottom line is in life, you need to listen to people who are going to give you good advice. Don’t listen to your friends that are not making money. For example, if that person listens to these people in the group and 99.9% of these people don’t make money, that person is going to spend thousands of dollars per month without making any profit. That’s a terrible advice. Again, you’re the average of the five people you hang out the most with. So would you get advice from people who are actually going to bring you higher and closer to your goals or from people that are none of them is not living the lifestyle you are trying to live?
I remember when I was in school, for example, all of the teachers and everybody in the school system was telling me that for me to live a fulfilling life, I need to go to the university, then get a job and to work a 9 to 5 job, save a little bit of money. And at some point, I’m going to retire, and then travel once in a while, and that’s it. That’s how to live a fulfilling life. But I started reading books about successful people, and then I realized that that’s not what they did at all. They didn’t work a 9 to 5 job. They started their own business, they worked 15 hours per day until they are successful, and then they were able to have freedom in their life quickly. It doesn’t take 40 to 50 years to do that. These people achieved that quickly.
So again, I took advice from these successful people, not the teachers in school that are not living the lifestyle I’m trying to live. I don’t want to become a corporate slave working 9 to 5. So that’s my advice to you – just take advice from people that are actually successful in life and that are actually going to bring you closer to your goals.
