What are the best practices when it comes to quality control for your drop shipping store?

Quality control & dealing with broken items

First of all, when you are selecting sellers on Aliexpres the first thing you want to do is to check at their ratings. Only do business with sellers that have good reviews if you want to avoid bad surprises…Just by doing this, you will eliminate 99% of the potential problems.

Now a lot of people ask me if I order the products to test them myself before I start promoting them, and the answer to that is NO. I never do that because I prefer to take the time to read all the reviews from the people that bought from this seller to see if it is quality or not. If you do that, 99.9% of the time, you won’t have any problems with your products.

Now what happens f for some reason a customer emails me saying that the product is broken? In a case like this, what I usually do is I ask them to take a picture of the product because a lot of people they’re going to try and scam you. What I like to do is ask them to take a picture of the broken item to prove that the item is really broken.

Now let’s assume that they send you a picture of the broken item. What I usually do is that I tell them that I’m going to send them another product. Then what I do is I usually tell them to pick another product on my website and that I’m going to send it to them for free. If you’re selling retail offers for example if you’re selling something that’s about $67 that’s a really good strategy because the last thing that you want is to offer a refund. If you offer a refund to the person, you’re losing a lot of money.

Let’s say that the product is $100. You’re selling the product for $100 on your website and the product on AliExpress is $10. If you’re offering a refund, you’re losing $90. Which one do you prefer, sending the product again so you’re losing $10 plus something else from your website that’s probably going to cost $5 or $10 on AliExpress so you’re losing let’s say $25, $30 versus losing $90?

You probably prefer the first option so that’s what I do when something is broken…When someone asks for a refund, I send them the item again and on top of that I give them a little extra, a little gift. I tell them, “Look, pick any product on the website and I’ll send it to you for free of charge.” A lot of people are happy about that because that’s good customer service. It’s a little extra that you offer them and on top of that you’re making money at the same time.

Now just be aware that if the item is broken and the customer sends you the picture, you can go back to the seller on Aliexpress and ask for a refund! This is super easy to do and in 99.9% of the cases you won’t have any trouble getting your money back.
