ALIBABA VS ALIEXPRESS – SHOPIFY DROP SHIPPING TUTORIAL

Someone on my website asked me what’s the difference between Alibaba and Aliexpress and which one they should use when it comes to drop shipping.

These two websites are completely different and I will explain the differences between the two.

There two websites are completely different. Alibaba is where you go to purchase A LOT of products, whereas Aliexpress is where you go to purchase ONE PRODUCT.

Alibaba is more of a business to business website, where you can buy a specific product in bulk, meaning you can order 500-1000-5000+ units of one product.

Aliexpress is more like a business to consumer website, meaning you go there to buy ONE UNIT. The price per unit will be higher than on Alibaba, but you won’t need to order hundreds of unit!

When it comes to Drop shipping, you need to go on ALIEXPRESS. The point of drop shipping is to eliminate pretty much all the risks. You don’t have to pay for the inventory upfront, you don’t have to store all of these units, etc….YES you will pay a higher price per unit, BUT IT DOESN’T MATTER because it it worth it. You eliminate pretty much ALL THE RISK when you drop ship so it doesn’t matter. 

Also, because most of the products on Aliexpress are from China, even if you order only ONE UNIT, you will soon realize that it is still AN AMAZING DEAL. I sell a lot of products on my store at around $100 and I pay them around $5 on Aliexpress just to give you an idea…This is an amazing profit margin, and I DON’T HAVE TO PAY UPFRONT ANY INVENTORY. The customer comes on my website, they pay for the product, I then take their money and I go to Aliexpress to buy the product for much cheaper and I keep the difference between the price on my website and the price on Aliexpress. The seller on Aliexpress then ships the product directly to the customer…

The only reason why you would want to go to Alibaba as a Drop shipper is if at some point you sell so many of one product that you decide you want to put your own brand name on it. If you want to do this, you will have to go to Alibaba and talk to the sellers over there. They will give you a Quote and will tell you how many units you need to order. Be aware that you CAN NEGOTIATE WITH THEM. You can negotiate on the price, the minimum number of units, etc.

But the bottom line is this: If you are just starting out, you need to go to Aliexpress! You will find plenty of super cheap products over there and if your marketing is good, you won’t have any problem getting a super good profit margin!
